Line-type Optical Vibration Sensor (Korea Photonics Technology Institute)

Line-type Optical Vibration Sensor

  • Policy features
This technology was developed based on OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometry), and measures the location and frequency of external vibrations through the phase change of Rayleigh backscattered light generated by optical pulses incident on the optical fiber in the length direction of the optical fiber. We have localized the core technology that analyzes the frequency information for each position through the scattering signal and drive control technology for the core components of the system, such as light sources, photodetectors, optical systems, and optical signal processing units.

Policy details

This technology can be applied to various fields such as road traffic, plant, civil engineering/building, energy, and boundary monitoring, and is particularly suitable for abnormality detection and safety monitoring fields in connection with artificial intelligence and big data solutions.

• Scope of use in the public sector

  - (Transportation field) It can be used to prevent large-scale traffic accidents by monitoring the safety of the railroad side of the entire section of the track on which the train runs, as well as monitoring the flow of vehicles on the highway and whether there is a collision.

  - (Border/surveillance) It can be used as a long-distance large-scale intrusion detection technology through the measurement of ground sound waves.

• Scope of application in the private sector

  - (Private infrastructure field) It can be used as a distributed safety diagnosis sensor that can simultaneously monitor leakage and damage of large-scale oil pipelines, chemical plants, water and sewage pipes.

  - (Building Monitoring) It can be used as a safety monitoring sensor through vibration detection for earthquakes and risk factors of old buildings that are frequently occurring in Korea.

  - (Civil engineering/building field) It can be used as a safety monitoring sensor for civil engineering structures such as underwater piers, bridges, bridges, tunnels, etc.

• Other application range

  - (Energy field) As the safety of nuclear power plant containment buildings and nuclear waste storage becomes an issue, it is possible to apply a long-term management system through monitoring of vibrations caused by earthquakes and turbines.

  - (Ground Exploration Field) It can be used in various ground monitoring fields such as underground and submarine earthquakes, landslides, and marine exploration that require large-scale installation of vibration or acoustic sensors.
